Fluorosilicone oils are a class of organosilicon compounds in which fluoroalkyl groups (mainly trifluoropropyl) are introduced into the siloxane main chain or side chain. They combine the high-temperature resistance and weather resistance of organosilicon compounds with the oil resistance, solvent resistance, and water and oil repellency of fluorocarbon compounds. They can be divided into the following major categories based on their structure and function:
I. Basic Fluorosilicone Oils (classified by end groups)
Type | Chemical Name | Characteristics and Applications
Trifluoropropylmethyl Silicone Oil | Poly(3,3,3-trifluoropropylmethylsiloxane) | The most common basic type, methyl-terminated, temperature resistant (-40~204℃), oil and solvent resistant, used as base oil for greases, sealing fluids, and defoamers.
Hydroxyl-terminated Fluorosilicone Oil | Hydroxyl-terminated polytrifluoropropylmethylsiloxane | Reactive, used in room-temperature vulcanized fluorosilicone rubber base materials and fluorosilicone rubber structure control agents.
Vinyl-terminated Fluorosilicone Oil | Vinyl-terminated polytrifluoropropylmethylsiloxane | Contains vinyl reactive groups, used in the preparation of addition-curing fluorosilicone rubber and modified material crosslinking agents.
Hydrogen-containing Fluorosilicone Oil | Trifluoropropylmethylsiloxane containing silane hydrogen groups | Contains Si-H bonds, can be used as crosslinking agents and modifiers for fluorosilicone rubber vulcanization and surface treatment agents.
II. Modified Fluorosilicone Oils (classified by functional groups)
Type | Modifying Group | Characteristics and Applications
Polyether Modified Fluorosilicone Oil | Polyoxyethylene/polyoxypropylene segments | Combines fluorosilicone properties with hydrophilicity, used in textile softeners, coating leveling agents, and personal care product additives.
Amino Modified Fluorosilicone Oil | Amino group (-NH₂) | Reactive and adsorbent, used in high-grade fabric finishing, providing softness, smoothness, and antistatic properties, with a market share of approximately 18.4%.
Epoxy Modified Fluorosilicone Oil | Epoxy group | Highly reactive, used in electronic packaging materials, adhesives, and coating modification to improve adhesion and chemical resistance.
Fluorocarbon Modified Fluorosilicone Oil | Long-chain fluoroalkyl group Enhanced water and oil repellency, used in high-end surface treatments, anti-fouling coatings, and release agents.
Phenyl-modified fluorosilicone oil: Phenyl (-C₆H₅) group; improves high-temperature resistance (up to 230℃) and radiation resistance, used in aerospace and nuclear industries, accounting for approximately 24% of the market share.
